Executive Meeting Minutes DATE: October 20, 2005
Meeting called to order at 12:40 pm. Minutes from previous 2 meetings: adopted MSC. Treasurer’s report: attached MSC. Committee reports: EAP: We will have another counsellor change. The EAP Library requires funding for books for the library. EO: A meeting was held where various goals were established. Grievance: Stewards are reminded to give a brief report to Jean Sterling for all complaints or grievances. This will allow identify trends requiring additional action. Staffing: The Vancouver Tax Services Office (VTSO) offered permanent positions to some members in the PM02 Collection Officer pool. Some members accepted this position and have left to the VTSO. Membership: Members are reminded that when coming back from leave of 3 or more months to contact the union because the members are required to sign a new union card. OSH: Ed Painter reports some members complained about the smoke created by the roofing at the Surrey Taxation Centre. No other issues brought forward. Compassion: Linda Light’s children were given a basket on behalf of the union membership. Old Business: None New Business: AGM is will be tentatively held on February 8, 2006 at the Day’s Inn (formerly Surrey Inn). We will ask Betty Bannon to be our guest speaker. Executive was asked to consider a challenge from national UTE to donate money to the Red Cross Katrina fund. It was pointed out that there have been a series of natural disasters, most recently the earthquake in Pakistan. To address this, the executive will consider sending money to the Red Cross organization in general. Final decision will be made in the future. Members are encouraged to provide their input to the executive. Motion to have every second meeting held on CRA premises. MSC. PSAC advises there are no immediate plans to participate in the ongoing protest against Bill 12, a law imposing a contract on the members of the BC Teachers Federation. As it stands, members can participate on their own time. The executive will inform the membership of any changes with as much advance notice as is possible. Please check our website regularly.
