GUEST SPEAKERS:

Bob Campbell, National Vice President:

The key topics Bob discussed were:

·        Scholarships for members and family-the info regarding scholarships is on the UTE National website, members are encourage to review and apply-it’s there for the members.

·        National website, there is a lot of great info on the site for the members to review, such as, the info on the past three years of conferences.

·        The National News letter, if you are not receiving it, let your executive know. If you have any topic you would like discussed a article you would like to see in the News letter email Bob as he is the Editor of the News letter.

·        UTE National—there is a lot going on, we are in tough times and they are only going to get tougher. We did better in the last round of negotiations than Treasury Board, but we need to be ready in two years for the next fight!

·        Bob gave Betty Bannon’s regrets for her absence, she’s is currently attending the Bellville AGM as this is her last term as President and Bellville is her home riding she really wanted to be with her friends and colleagues.

·        Regarding the ECO review:

o   We will have some loses, hope not to lose indeterminate members, might lose term members.

o   The challenges for CRA regarding the Budget freeze, CRA is estimating Postage costs at 1 million alone.

·        Pension, they are deferred wages, you’ve paid for it, but people like Catherine Swift would like to see you lose that pension she hates Public Service Worker’s she thinks your are and should be gone; and for some reason she has governments ear. Look around when you shop, if you see the CFIB signage in the window don’t shop there and let the owner know why you are not supporting their business. Most businesses are not even aware of or know who Catherine Swift is; they are only interested in the discounts they can receive.

·        National can not do it for you! You need to fight for your rights and benefits that you deserve!

·        July 12-17, is the Convention 2011, your local has to have resolutions in by March, get your issues to your executive—get involved!

In closing Bob thank everyone for coming out.

Pamela Abbott, Pacific Regional Vice President UTE

The key topics Pamela addressed were:

·        Pamela spoke to how much work the Local does, she explained how she runs a tight ship and expects a lot from each and every local!

·        The next Collective Agreement, we need your voice! It is going to be a tough fight!

·        The numbers were down at the ratification vote, our numbers in BC were as high as Ontario! Our votes count!

·        Next Collective Agreement, if you don’t plan to lose your Pension and Severance packages then be prepared to be on the front lines.

·        Regional and National needs you to talk it up.

·         BC is making huge gains when lobbying with the Assistance Commissioner on such topics as:

o   Compensation

o   Staffing

·        WE are proactive not reactive regarding harassment in this Region, when someone comes forth they have been pained, it is not longer acceptable and will be investigated!

Pamela discussed the 2011 Convention to be held in Montreal July 13th to 16th, again informing members to get involved and take their concerns to their Executive to be brought forward for convention.
