Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) Local 20002

For this past year I’ve been your secretary and would like to thank all of you for this experience. When I decided to run for the position of Secretary I really didn’t know the full scope of what I was signing up for, and with that note, I would like to thank Sandy Stephens for the dedication she put forth in the past years as well as the guidance she gave me, she made the transition incredibly unproblematic.

The education I gained in the past year:

In June I attended the UTE Regional Equal Opportunities Conference Diversity and the Union in Edmonton.

• I believe I gained insight to the many various cultural challenges in our Country, Agency, and even Local Office, I look at many different situations in a different way after attending this conference.

In October I attended the UTE Staffing Training.

• I found this training invaluable and have become obsessive about this topic (just ask any of the other executive members who have had to listen to me).

In November I attended the CRA Labour Relations for MG’s training.

• I found this training very enlightening; it gave me a better understanding to some of the obstacles and challenges management faces and allowed me to gain the knowledge to what management can/can’t and should/shouldn’t be doing when dealing with employees.

In November I attended the PSAC Local Executive Development Conference.

• At this conference our local develop our Plan and Budget. It was a great weekend of group brainstorming. I look forward to doing my part in implementing our plan and budget.

Monthly I attended the UTE 20002 executive meetings, as well as, the monthly steward meetings; I’ve enjoyed my duties as a steward and look forward to serving you if the need ever arises.

In closing I’ve enjoyed my year as your secretary and look forward to 2010 being a great year for UTE at the Local, Regional, and National levels.
